When accounting for CO2 emissions it is important to know the biomass content of the fuels used. Biomass content is deemed to be ‘carbon neutral’ and therefore does not count in CO2 emissions.

China and the USA have announced their ratification of the Paris Agreement on climate change ahead of the G20 meeting in Hangzhou, China. This is an important milestone as between China and the USA generate ~40 per cent of anthropogenic CO2 emissions.

For the Paris Agreement on climate change to enter into force, 55 parties representing at least 55 per cent of global emissions must ratify the agreement and join. Therefore Chinese and US ratification is a major step towards the agreement coming into force and virtually guarantee that it eventually will.
